Some New Reads
As the weather has been hot and sticky, I hope you have taken the time to chill and read. Patrons have been asking for some recommendations, so thought I would post some here. Lucy by Laurence Gonzales is a science fiction novel dealing with the genetics of apes and humans. The what if's of continued DNA testing, religious and government viewpoints, and how the media plays a role in how people view a situation are all part of this fast past novel. The Help by Kathyrn Stockett has been a huge summer favorite looking at the lives of black maids in the 1950's South. I listened to it on audio book and loved it! While I have not always liked everything Tracy Chevalier has written I thought Remarkable Creatures was definitely a worthy read, especially if you are interested in woman's fiction and early science. For another fast-paced novel look for books by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, a Spanish author. We have both The Angel's Game and The Shadow of the Wind and you can't go wrong with either. Not only will you have a great read, but a chance to "see" Barcelona!
