Winter Reading
Winter isn't over yet... Are you making plans to stay home during the predicted storm and read, but not sure what? Give The Bronze Horseman a try written by Paullina Simon. A Russian based novel set in World War II Leningrad. It not only transports you to war torn Soviet Russia through vivid descriptions, but includes a powerful set of characters in a time of hopelessness. The story doesn't end, but takes you to the second book which focuses on Soviet defections to the West, not only during the war but at the end of World War II.
A memoir written by Stieg Larsson's close friend, Kurdo Baksi, is one I don't recommend missing if you are a fan of the Millennium Trilogy. After reading this short memoir, I felt I was able to better understand the Trilogy and also gained insight into Larsson's characters and thoughts.
If you are looking for a good historical e-book try, Winter Sea. A historical fiction novel based in Scotland, with romance and memories of past lives giving readers a look into Scotland's past. If you like Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, you will also like this shorter, but no less descriptive Winter Sea.
If you are ready for a quick but interesting mystery give Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter a go. Set in the American South, we have a murder to be solved and racism to contend with. This book has not only gotten great reviews nationally, but by West Liberty patrons and staff themselves!
